Robinson presented Elliot Richardson Lecture

Monday, March 9, 2015

Reggie Robinson presented the Elliott Richardson Lecture, titled "The Shifting Voting Rights Narrative and the Increased Importance of Effective Election Administration," on Sunday, March 8 at the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) National conference. The lecture, delivered on the day after the 50th Anniversary of the historic Selma March for voting rights, reflected on recent court decisions limiting the effectiveness of the Voting Rights Act, the impact of increasingly restrictive state voting laws, and the enhanced need, therefore, to ensure effective administration of election processes at the local level.

The Elliot Richardson Lecture, which was established in 2000, honors the contributions of Elliot Richardson, an attorney and politician, who worked in the Nixon and Ford administrations. Richardson is one of only two individuals to serve in four United States Cabinet positions within the United States government. Lecturers exemplify an array of experience in the practice and study of public administration to enact change. "Elliot Richardson is a public service icon. Because of his courageous stand during the Watergate crisis, among other reasons, he has long been among my public service heroes." Robinson said. "Richardson’s public service career is a model for anyone who cares about the pursuit of the public good. It was a truly special honor to be chosen to deliver the lecture that bears his name."
