Charissa Wahwasuck-Jessepe, a Richard Chesney and Clara Schneider Perkins Scholar, graduated magna cum laude from Wichita State University in 2012 with a B.A. in Anthropology. She completed two programs through American University, where she was a Dean's Scholar Recipient and served the Student Advocates for Native Communities Club. While in D.C., she worked for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs as the Federal Public Policy Intern and Legislative Fellow, conducting legislative analysis, providing policy recommendations, participating in consultation with congressional staff and agencies, and assisting in advocacy efforts for Native Hawaiians and greater indigenous communities. Charissa is a member on the Social Services Advisory Board for the Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation. She is working in the City Manager's Office in Topeka, Kansas.
