About: Amie Young, an Alan Sims, Mary Litchfield, Wildgen Family, and John & Carol Nalbandian Scholar, graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s in political science and global and international studies and a minor in business in 2013. Prior to starting graduate school, Amie served as the communications director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas. Previously, she served as a political appointee in the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Commerce under the Obama Administration. In this role, she was responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the deputy secretary’s office and acting as a liaison between the office and Congress, other cabinet agencies, and the White House. Amie has also served as an education policy intern for the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, an intern to the Chief Whip of the Irish Parliament, and as an AmeriCorps member at the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, Kansas.
