Carol Nalbandian Leaves Strong Legacy

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Dear Friends,

The School, PMC, and humanity suffered a great loss on Tuesday, January 7th with the passing of Carol Nalbandian: wife of John and friend to us all.

John wishes to convey the following:

“I want to thank everyone for their support not only of Carol but for me as well. We all have learned from the way she led her life. Remember, she never said “I am ‘fighting’ cancer.” She never said, “I am in a ‘battle.’” She simply accepted each limitation on her life as a new normal. I think her acceptance of the disease threw it off; it did not know how to react, and for years beyond what was statistically expected, she was able to lead the life she wanted to live.

No flowers please; if you wish to commemorate her life, she wanted me to encourage you to contribute to a charity of your choice or to the Lawrence, KS, public library, where she spent so many volunteer hours.”

SERVICES TO HONOR CAROL

There will be two services to celebrate Carol's life: one in Lawrence and one in Los Angeles.

The Lawrence event is planned for Friday, February 28 at 3:00 p.m. and will be held at the University of Kansas in the Woodruff Auditorium of the Kansas Memorial Union. Immediately following, you are invited to join the family for refreshments in the Big 12 Room. (Parking is available for a fee in the parking structure adjacent to the Union.) The service will combine a Buddhist service with an ecumenical celebration of her life.  For more information, please contact Ray Hummert at 785-864-9097 or via email at rhummert@ku.edu.

The books purchased with this donation will be ornamented with book plates in Carol's name.
